Tank linings & bunding
A thermoplastic lining puts a seamless, chemical-proof barrier inside an existing tank, pit or bund — often the fastest way to bring old or corroding containment back into safe service. Beckox fabricates and welds linings in place, tailored to the structure they protect.
A new tank inside the old one
Steel and concrete containment corrodes; replacing it wholesale is disruptive and expensive. Lining the existing structure with welded thermoplastic sheet gives a continuous barrier that is impervious to the stored chemistry, follows the existing geometry, and can be tested and repaired by welding for the rest of its life. The photographs on this page show a bunded containment area being lined, wall and floor, with GRP walkway over.
Bunds and containment areas
Secondary containment only works if it is actually liquid-tight. We line bund floors and walls, pipe penetrations and sumps as one welded system, and fit GRP grating walkways so the lining is protected from foot traffic and dropped tools.

Thermoplastic sheet lining, not a sprayed coating
This is worth being clear about, because most firms offering bund lining apply a sprayed or laid-up coating. We do something different: welded thermoplastic sheet — polypropylene, PVC or polyethylene — cut and fusion-welded into a continuous membrane. A coating bonds to the substrate and depends on that bond and on film thickness; a welded sheet lining is a self-supporting barrier of known thickness whose seams can be inspected and, years later, cut out and rewelded. Where a bund has already been coated and keeps failing, a sheet lining is usually the next step.
Bund sizing — the general rules
Published UK guidance on chemical and oil storage commonly refers to secondary containment sized at 110% of the largest single vessel within the bund, or 25% of the aggregate capacity of everything inside it, whichever is greater. Whether those figures apply to your installation — and what your permit, insurer or regulator requires — is a question for your own assessment of the site and the substances held. What we do is fabricate and line the containment to the dimensions that assessment arrives at, including sumps, pipe penetrations and upstands.
